JAKARTA–Minister of SOEs Dahlan Iskan plans to meet the Head of Financial Services Authority (FSA) Board of Commissioner to talk about state-owned banks consolidation.

“I will come to him if I have to. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Chairul Tanjung told me about it yesterday. Indeed, my action was not approved,” he said, Thursday (7/17/2014).

FSA Head Muliaman Hadad said previously that he will meet Dahlan Iskan to talk about the merger of state-owned banks. According to Dahlan, he is delighted because the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Chairul Tanjung had the same opinion like the merger in Malaysia between CIMB, RHB Capital and Malaysia Building Society.

“Thank God, it is now getting support. This is necessary since Indonesian banks should be large,” he said.

Earlier, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono rejected the state-owned banks consolidation plan between PT Bank Mandiri Tbk. and PT Bank Tabungan Negara Tbk.

The plan is required to be postponed until the next new government. Finally, the corporate action should be ceased due to rejection especially from BTN’s worker unions. (t06)
